As far as language, religion and national composition are concerned , Indonesia and Malaysia share the maximum similarity in the world. But afterwards the Southeast Asia Financial Crisis broke out; there were two different consequences in these two countries. So the contrast between Indonesia and Malaysia will provide an empirical field on which to examine the origins of this crisis. This study, in searching for a reasonable explanation, looks at how the interplay of three factors, that is politics, economy and society led to different outcomes. According to the order of the discussion, the dissertation consists of five principle parts. The significance of this comparative study lies in the fact that there has not too much comparative work been done on why there are different consequences between Indonesia and Malaysia. The scholastic attainment, common understanding and shortcomings in the academic discussion about the financial crisis are also introduced briefly in the preface.Chapter one mainly introduced the natural and human cultural environment. The former consists of climate, geography and resources; the latter includes the history, ethnicity and religion. The author compares Malaysia and Indonesia economic development process and consequences in Chapter two. He considers that the advantage and disadvantage appearing in the two countries development process are the reason to explain why the same crisis brought out different consequences. The explanations that he gives is both the government and mass are infatuated by the growth of the economy, instead of paying enough attention to promote the structure of industry. Nevertheless the author thinks the infatuation embodies man抯 subjective activity. The reason why both two countries frustrated in this crisis is that they ignore the development stage, which can be shortened, but not be neglected.Chapter three focus on two aspects of which one is the stability in political field, the other is the influence of politics to economy. Depending on the demonstration of two aspects, the author .want to explore the reason why there was different political situation during the financial crisis. Although Malaysia was troubled in some problems, its political stability was higher than Indonesia. And Malaysia political process did not interfere with the economy directly. But Indonesia was just on the contrary. In the following chapter four, the author compares the social stability depending on the relations among the races, mass and government, and their culture identity. In these aspects, Malaysia is do better than Indonesia.Chapter five summarizes the whole dissertation .The financial crisis broke out firstly from financial field, but which consequence will come depends on the interplay of politics, society and culture. The interplay in fact forms the resultant of forces to push the history going ahead. When Southeast Asia countries went through the test of this crisis, they found them nowadays had more awareness about how to develop their coUntries. This fact reflects the law that the man is continually developing through their practice.
