The negation principle of J·Cohen's theory is the most important distinguish between mathematical probability logic and non-pascalian probability logic. The paper demonstrates that the essence and value of the negation princeple of Cohen, the limitation and the trial amendment of the limitation. It has three parts. The first part deals with the background and essence of the negation principle of Cohen. Through summarizing the history of inductive logic and the achievement in the field of the science and the humanities, the paper points that the thought origin of the negation principle of Cohen and the problem which trying to solve. After that, it gives the expounding of the negation principle of Cohen himself, and demonstrates the essence of the negation principle of Cohen. The second part deals with significant value in theory and practice of the negation principle of Cohen. In theroy, on one hand, the negation principle of Cohen realizes the forms of innovation of Bacon's inductive logic, and saves the science from the apriority of the mathematics probability logic. On the other hand, it realizes the local defense to the rationality of the inductive problem, which relatively solves the Hume problem in local defense thought. In practice, the most value of the negation principle of Cohen is that it provides the method for the science research, discovery of science and the receive of science. The third part deals with the limitations of the negation principle of Cohen and trial amendment of this limitation. The limitation of the negation principle of Cohen is the inconsistent and the inappropriate in the system. The reason of the limitation is the contradiction between the weak affirmation and the strong negation. To reconcile the contradiction, it makes a trial amendment to the negation principle of Cohen through modifying the semantene interpretation of contradiction principle.
