As an effective tool, mind mapping not only be able to guide and extend the thinking process, but also can record this process and provide a clear visual expression of it. While it can help building self-knowledge networks, it is conducive to the communication of knowledge and information between individuals. Be based on the reality of the College English Extensive Reading Course, this research tries to apply mind mapping into it for the purpose of enhancing the quality and effectiveness of this course, for the purpose of promoting students' reading competence, and also for the purpose of providing some reference to the study of mind mapping in the field of applied research of English teaching and learning.This paper includes the following six parts:The first part proposes the research topic, significance, contents and methods on the basis of the discussion about the research background, the study of mind mapping both at home and abroad.The second part provides a theoretical foundation for this applied research on the basis of the discussion about the relevant research on reading.The third part provides a theoretical foundation for this applied research on the basis of the discussion about the relevant research on mind mapping.The fourth part analyses the use and function of mind mapping in the Course of College English Extensive Reading, and introduces the implementation of this empirical research.The fifth part analyzes the relevant data of this empirical research.The sixth part analyses and summarizes this research, and discusses the future of the application of mind mapping in the field of English education.The research finds that the application of mind mapping in the teaching and learning of College English Extensive Reading Course can help to stimulate students'interest in reading, and to improve students'understanding of the reading material as a whole. In addition, as an effective means of communication, mind mapping not only can help to expand students'knowledge scale, but also can help to develop the students'critical thinking ability, language ability as well as cooperative learning ability, and finally has a positive effect in the promotion of students'reading competence.
