Along with the implementation of the reform and opening-up policy, China has been gradually melting into the global economic tide. The full-scale communication and cooperation with foreign countries spring up every day under the background of globalization. And, almost all of the economic foreign activities cannot do without the contracts because they give a promise to the concerning parties in a legal way. Thus, the make-up or translation of international business contracts seems particularly important because it is directly related with smooth implementation of economic cooperation. Differing from lots of published papers which mainly discuss the strategies and techniques based on the western translation theories, the thesis tries to explore a distinctive approach to international business contracts E-C translation from the perspective of formulaic sequences. The new approach can not only effectively simplify the information processing in translation but greatly improve the accuracy and propriety of the translated version. This thesis consists of five parts.Chapter one serves as an introduction to the study, which describes the background, purpose, and methodology of the study.Chapter Two reviews the knowledge relevant to FS and introduces cognitive origins of FS, which provides the theoretical bedding for the later research.Chapter Three is an explicit analysis of IBC features from the macro and micro level respectively, on the basis of which the author further points out the high possibility of implementation of IBC translation based on FS.Chapter Four is the body part of this thesis which highlights how FS is applied to the IBC E-C translation from lexical and sentential level by analyzing samples. In particular, it discusses the E-C translation of complex sentences at some length in the cognitive translation process. Finally, it concludes the advantages of this approach in the language comprehension and production.Chapter Five is a conclusion of the whole thesis. The implication and limitation of the study will also be pointed out.
