Study On Huangshen's Freehand Brushwork Painting Style

This paper aims to study the style, features and their forming process of Freehand Figure Painting of Huang Shen. Beginning with the life experience of Huang Shen, the author studies the root of the formation and development of the artistic style of Huang Shen. The author analyzes the causes of the formation of the artistic style of Huang Shen in inside and outside factor. The outside factors include Historical background, economic market, political climate, cultural environment in Yangzhou where Huang Shen lived. In addition, the"Yangzhou picture group"in that time had important impact to the artistic style of Huang Shen. The inside factor include the unique life trajectory and the objective requirement of the Painting and calligraphy Market. Both the outside and inside factor has a heavy impact on Painting art style and content materials of Huang shen. On the basis of having studying the formation reasons of Huang Shen's artistic style and gaining the conclusion, The paper lists out some Huang Shen representative paintings and deeply analysis the three different period of the figure painting style of Huang Shen. In early stage, primarily in fine brushwork, exquisitely, vigorous and beautiful. In metaphase, fine brushwork together with freehand brushwork, stylish, elegant, lichtung. In late, being famous with big freehand cursive strokes, dripping, wantonly, desolate and rash. Through deeply analysis the painting style of Huang Shen, we understand his painting style and prove that his painting style is impact by the inside and outside factors proposed above. The author also compares Huang Shen with Liang Kai, Jin Nong and Luo Pin etc, clearly know the Role and status of Huang Shen's Figure Painting in Freehand Figure Painting history. Through comparing with Liang Kai in five dynasties period, we can know that he inherited and developed Figure Painting style and formed his own style. Through comparing and analyzing Huang Shen with his contemporaries and same school painter, it can be found that Huang Shen's figure painting is dominated by Painting with Cursive in penmanship and was impact by "eight eccentrics of Yangzhou", market, Huang Shen's own life experience. Especially, he takes Cursive into figure painting, which makes the characters imply cursive lines and be known as the first person who takes cursive into painting.Through studying the factor of figure painting style of Huang Shen in this paper, we can deeper understand his artistic developing process and his works. This can not only enrich our artistic research of Freehand Figure Painting, but also guide us to learn and innovate with Freehand Figure Painting better in contemporary.
