From Huang Shen’s Cursive Script To See His Freehand Figure Painting

Based on the exposition of the establishment and development of Huang Shen’s cursive script and free hand figure painting, this article explains his creation concept featuring the combination of calligraphy and painting. Cursive script should be written according to a rule to show its cursive style. However, Huang Shen’s freehand figure paintings are created with general and simple figure which are qualified to cursive calligraphy and figure structure. Ever since the literati painting becoming the main trend, Huang Shen’s freehand figure painting featuring cursive calligraphy has made a huge contribution to the area of freehand figure painting and given aspiration to the future freehand figure painting.
