The Contrastive Study Of Chinese Attributive Words And English Adjective

Both Chinese attributive words and English adjective hold an important status in their own language system,people have studied them from diversiform views,but the research about their contrast is still at the elementary stage.This thesis would like make a clear description about these two kinds of words through the method of impersonal description,contrast, parallelism and hope to give some theory argument for teaching Chinese as second language.This thesis is composed of six parts.The first chapter briefly introduces the reason why I choose this subject,the research content,the significance,the method,the source of word material and general achievement of other researchers.Chapter two classifies the Chinese attributive words and English adjective fom multiple views:syllable,grammer function and word formation.And picks out some representational words from each parts gives the necessary analysis,make a clear word material base for the contrast in next chapters.Chapter three make a contrast between Chinese attributive word's formation and English adjective's formation.It finds out that ,there are much more English pure adjective and much more Chinese compounding attributive word.in each language system.Compounding word formation.take a big part of Chinese attributive word,English derivative words are pure words,so English pure adjective has the advantage in number,this is opposite to Chinese attributive word.Chapter four make a contrast between Chinese attributive word's grammer function and English adjective's grammer function.Except for being attribute ,there are discrepancy in other functions.For example:English adjective can bedeck the proper noun, Chinese attributive word can not.do this; Chinese attributive word can omit the central word ,English adjective can no do this.Chapter five make the English adjective as a reference,finds out the corresponding condition of Chinese attributive word and English adjective,itfinds out that,although these two kinds of words belongs to themodify words system,they can not be one to one correspondence,because they blong to two different language systems,have the different standard of classification,and there are difference of culture.The last part sum up the general opinions of this thesis and points out the deficiency of it.
