The classical Chinese poetry, with peculiar cultural characteristics, is marked for its concise and implicit poetic language, with ideorealm as the most vivid and beautiful part. Ideorealm is the soul of classical Chinese poetry. Therefore, the translator's recognition of the ideorealm will not only affect decoding and encoding of ideorealm in his translation, but also determine quality of the version with transference of image as the core of poem translation.Proposed by Jiang Qiuxia, image-G actualization theory holds that successful literary translation should be based on successful image-G actualization. This thesis, firstly, gives a brief introduction to Ezra Pound, and generalizes the fundamental theories of imagism and image-G actualization. Secondly, it gives a brief introduction to the concept of ideorealm, including the origin and development of ideorealm, the definition of ideorealm, the features of ideorealm and ways to create ideorealms. Thirdly, after an analysis of the affinity between image-G and ideorealm from the aspects of structure and aesthetic constitutes, the present thesis points out that the theory of image-G actualization as a theory of literary translation, is supposed to be useful to ideorealm reproduction. Fourthly, based on the model of image-G actualization proposed by Professor Jiang Qiuxia, the author of this thesis tentatively proposes a model of ideorealm reproduction as to provide some guidance for this abstract concept. At last, this thesis makes studies on the reproduction of ideorealm of classical Chinese poetry in the light of the model of ideorealm reproduction by analyzing and criticizing three examples of Pound's translation..This thesis attempts to draw a conclusion that image and ideorealm in classical Chinese poetry display holistic, implicit and cultural-dependent features. In the process of translation, the features of ideorealm may cause difficulties in both comprehension and expression. In translation, neglecting the features of ideorealm may result in problems which may affect the aesthetic effect of the version. As for the methods to render the imago, translation is a kind of complex mental activity. Translation of classical Chinese poetry is particularly a piece of demanding work which involves various factors like language, culture and thinking mode. It is hoped that the attempt made in this thesis may to some extent prove beneficial in translation studies.
