By analyzing Wang Wei’s pastoral poems, the author tries to prove thefeasibility of literary style reproduction from the following aspects: the beauty ofmusic, the beauty of painting and literary mood as well as the “Zen” philosophy.This thesis is composed of six chapters. The Introduction chapter covers thesignificance of this thesis, the background of this research, research methodology andthe purpose of this study. Chapter One reviews some basic topics of literary styletranslation, including what style is, the translatability of style and the limits oftranslatability. Chapter Two focuses on the direct influence of the beauty of music inliterary style reproduction, and proves the above argument by the combination oftheories and examples. Similar to the former chapter, Chapter Three brings forwardthe influence of beauty of painting in reproducing literary style of Wang Wei’spastoral poems. Chapter Four proposes two internal key elements in reproducingliterary style of Wang Wei’s pastoral poems: literary mood and the “Zen” philosophywhich jointly constitute Ideorealm. Finally the author points out the limitations of thisstudy in the Conclusion part.The author explores into the theory of literary style translation, and studies theEnglish translation of Wang Wei’s representative pastoral poems through analysesand contrasts from different aspects and levels. By combining translation theorieswith examples, the author expounds several standards for the reproduction of literarystyle in translating Wang Wei’s pastoral poetry into English.
