Wu Leichuan is a famous Chinese modern educator, a radical ideologist of Chinese Christian, and a pioneer of Chinese indigenous theology. As a scholar during the end of the Qing Dynasty, after receiving the baptism by Protestant Episcopal Church, he started to actively take part in the Christian activities and at last, through combining with Chinese confusion traditions and social reality, explored out a"theology in the middle". Wu Leichuan has published a lot of compositions in order to facilitate the communication between Christian and Chinese traditional culture, wishing for a reform in Chinese society while fastening the root of Christian in China. Therefore, Wu Leichuan should be representative among the Chinese intellectuals in modern times with his pioneering spirit in thought innovation.Wu Leichuan is a conformer to times, whose reaction to the times showed his course of exploring thoughts. From a Confusion scholar to a Christian, from a Christian to a revolutionist, he experienced three turning points during the transitions, which course could be summarized into phases including Confucianism, dominical belief, and socialism. The most important contribution made by him lies in the pectination and conformation of relations between Confucianism and Christian, which inherited from the great people before him. Although he conducted critical and historical recollection about Chinese culture, he never fully or thoroughly denied Chinese traditional culture. He embarked from the actual need, theoretically or socially, and paid most attention to the practical and beneficial aspect in Christian. His though just applied the Confucianism standing for social involvement and humanistic pragmatism into actual social practice, which might make him appear like a Christian but instead he still stayed as a Confucian inside.Wu Leichuan lived his life as a model for others, contributed a lot of scholarly works, valued much of and imitated Jesus great integrity, all of which seemed to approach the three immortalities of"Write Works, Perform Exploits and Have Strict Morals"in Confucianism from another direction.
