The Research On The Ministry Of Education Released Annual New Words Of 2006 To 2008

New word is a barometer, from which we can observe social life; it is also a mirror to show the true face of the community. The Annual New Words released by Education Department and State Language Work Committee plays a very important role in recording language situation and studying the vocabulary development in China; also it provide a reasonable basis for revising of Modern Chinese Dictionary. In this thesis, structure type, blending degree, motivation, acceptability rate and standardization of new words are studied beginning with the characteristics and methods of word-building of Annual New Words.Chapter one start with the definitions of concept and research status of the new words, then briefly introduce the purpose and significance of this paper and the theory and method adapted in this research. And an illustration on the source of corpus is included.Chapter two studies the characteristics and methods of word-building of new words as a whole. For characteristics, syllabic features, lexical distribution, and resource are concerned in this section; for the methods of word-building, loan transition, structure imitation,rhetorical way and abbreviation are mainly discussed.Chapter three divide structure type of new words from the point of the number of syllables. The classifications of new words of disyllable, disyllabic, quadrisyllable are detailed described in this chapter.Chapter four discusses conceptual blending for new words and its level. Blending degree is analyzed from four aspects by aiming at"N+N"of modifier-head construction which mentioned in chapter three and the result is: there are 4 levels of the blending degree: Level A (low), Level B (the second low), Level C (the second high), and Level D (high).Chapter five talk about the acceptability degree and standardization of the new words.The conclusion summarizes the full text, and with some explanations on relevant issues.
