"Ba"sentence is not only a special pattern of the sentence in Modern Chinese, but also complex and various. Its basic construct is"NP1+Ba+NP2+VP". Based on the different syntactic and semantic characteristic, the kinds of syntax and semantics of"ba"sentence are divided into four big types in this thesis: firstly,"ba"sentence of the instrumental construction; secondly,"ba"sentence of the disposal construction; thirdly,"ba"sentence of the causative construction; the lastly,"ba"sentence compounded by above three types. As far as the former three types of"ba"sentence are concerned, form"the instrumental construction"to"the disposal construction",to"the causative construction"again, there is a continuum from the typical to the non-typical in cognitive view. The member that lies in the nuclear position of a type of"ba"sentence always obsesses more family iconic than the one that lies in the verge of it, which manifests gradually the transition from one type of"ba"sentence to another type of it. It is obvious that there is intrinsic relation among them. But there is also some distinguish among them. In the semantics of"ba","ba"of the instrumental construction introduces a tool that is instrumental in the activity,"ba"of the disposal construction introduces a patient that is subjected by agents, and"ba"of the causative construction introduces agents or a reference that relates with the predicate verb. The ambiguity is showed in some"ba"sentences, because semantics of"ba"of the sentence is very complex. As far as the last type of"ba"sentence is concerned, actually, it is compounded by the former three types of"ba"sentence. It is mainly classified into two styles of"ba"sentence:"instrumental + causative"and"disposal + causative". The referent of"R"in the Construction"NP1 + BA + NP2 + VR"is discussed in the analysis of the compound. It is pointed out that"R"must not refer to the patient in the sentence all the time."R"refers to the patient sometimes,"R"refers to the agent sometimes,"R"refers to the tool sometimes, even"R"refers to somebody or something that is out of the sentence sometimes. Moreover, the negation of"ba"sentence is discussed appropriately in the some chapters of the thesis, too.
