In the process of literary communication, as the carriers, mass media will surely have affect on literary communication, including the mode of transmission, communication effectiveness, extent of influence and the system of literary reception. Throughout the history of the popular press and the popular novels in the Republic of China period, both the news report and the popular fiction went through the process of the localization in China. Initially, news reports, particularly the creation of social news were hugely affected by the popular novels. In the first decade of the 19th century, news reports had already formed their own independent reporting mode and writing standards which were different from the popular fiction. Authenticity, objectivity, timeliness, and other news features began to return. Newsprint gradually established its own position in society after a turbulent-three -decade of the Republic of China.Meanwhile, with the emergence of special issue published in the newspapers with novels, popular fiction had a more powerful carrier of communication. Under the constraints of the communication features in newspapers, popular fiction in the Republic of China period, demonstrated a wide range of documentary features of the creation. In the late Qing Dynasty period, because the news had extensive influence in social life, early popular fiction writers unconsciously borrowed techniques of news written. In the process of continuous publication in the newspaper, many writers added the recent news events to their own works at any time, making a cross-checked of news and novel. Till the late thirties and the forties of the Republic of China period, News reports and popular fiction still had a bond. But in fact, the influence on popular fiction from the news had already obviously weakened. Most popular fictions experienced the process from the vulgar to elegance. The standard of vulgar and elegance, which was different between literature and popular literature, gradually disappeared. This paper will be based on the view of the journalism, using researching methods of text analysis and case analysis to summarize the interaction between the news reports and the popular fictions. The expected conclusion is: popular fiction in the Republic of China period had gone through the process of the development from "news- fiction" to "fiction- news", trying to draw a general outline of the development of relations between the popular novels and the news reports of China.
