Xiaogan Carved Paper-cut Aesthetic Form

Xiaogan engraved paper-cut has been listed among the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage by the State Council and announced as the expansion project of the first batch. With distinct regional characteristics, prominent symbolic cultural connotations and unique aesthetic values, it is the combination of the artistic strengths of both the north and the south. Being one of the most important representations of Chu culture, Xiaogan engraved paper-cut is rich in cultural deposits as well as historical inheritance values.This thesis mainly analyzes and studies Xiaogan engraved paper-cut from its historical origins,"cultural space", inheritance state, aesthetic form, artistic style, etc. By comparing Xiaogan engraved paper-cut with Wuhan paper-cut and Henan paper-cut, this thesis sums up its notable regional characteristics and unique aesthetic values and thus makes contribution to its inheritance, protection and development.
