Study On Meaning And New Sememe Of Idioms Base On A Large Scale Of Corpus

As the crystallization of traditional Chinese culture, idioms have been the central issue of Chinese Lexicology. Idioms are conventional ,concise phrases or fixed phrases , they have integral meanings and shaped structures, their grammatical functions are equivalent to the word.They have elegant and written style. From 1970s or 1980s to the present, there are many achievements and perspectives on the ontology research of idoms. In recent years, research on the application of idioms gradually increased, in particular the use of idioms in research of Chinese information processing technology, filled gaps in the applied research field of idiom, enriched the perspectives, but these studies are mostly about the formal aspects (Such as word's form ) and made the descriptions and statistics of the idioms, very few research can penetrate to the internal meanings of idioms. Therefore, using computer technology to study idioms'meanings will become a new and valuable research.Based on corpus of Center for Contemporary Chinese Linguistics PKU (referred to as CCL Corpus) the use of induction, general law and the classification, description, frequency statistics, quantitative and qualitative analysis inspecting the meaning distribution of 134 idoms, found that some idioms'semantic variation occurred, that is used in the real deviation from the dictionary definition appears in the usage of the article refer to "Xinhua Idioms Dictionary " definition of idioms, respectively, summarized in line Dictionary of Idioms and the deviation from the number and percentage of use cases . And on this basis, according to whether the expression of the Semantic variation, economy, the principle of systematic think "out of control"and 17 idioms semantic evolution occurred, resulting in new sememes. The article also pointed out that the significance of corpus-based study for lexicography, language standardization and language resources, monitoring and research. In addition, reference to "Category Idioms Dictionary " on the meaning of idioms by type of situation on the meaning of these phrases, conducted a survey of the distribution, through the investigation we found that the idoms about social life are cline to produce semantic differences.By observating and reflecting the idioms which generated new sememe, we find that there are many reasons for idioms to generate new sememe: the complexity of the idiom resulting "words too literally, " Metaphorical Cognition make out the result, and the superiority of idioms rhythm and people's psychology of pursuiting popular and concise.
