Pu Hua is representative painter of "School of Shanghai" with creative spirit in the end of Qing Dynasty. He was included in "the four artists of the School of Shanghai " along with Ren Bonian, Xu Gu and Wu Changshuo. He is indifferent to fame and wealth and extraordinary in poetry, with his works rated as "three wonders" in poem, calligraphy and painting. This paper is divided into four chapters. The first chapter is about "Pu Hua's art life", through the background of Pu Hua's painting and calligraphy art, including the condition and historical significance of "School of Shanghai". By describing the family and birth of Pu Hua as well as his life experience, this chapter will give a general conception of Pu Hua's life. Chapter 2 is "PuHua's calligraphy style", based on the artistic history and calligraphy classification of Pu Hua, detailed analysis and comprehensive study are made for the artistic features of his calligraphy art classification. The third chapter is "Pu Hua's calligraphy ideology", which summarizes the unique ideology of calligraphy by Pu Hua. The fourth chapter is "the artistic influence of Pu Hua's calligraphy", which summarizes the significance of Pu Hua's calligraphy in the history of modern Chinese calligraphy and painting. The major chapter is chapter 2 "PuHua's calligraphy style", which aims at understanding this all-rounder artist through the study of PuHua's calligraphy art style, learn the perseverance in working on calligraphy with no fear of poverty and hardship, and his courage and insight of making innovation with absorbing the advantages of different styles.
