Interpretation Of The New Period Novels' River Image

The river is one of the common things in our daily life. Also, it is one of the most commonly used images in literature . These images of rivers have aesthetic requires and art characteristics from whatever the cultured and restrained aspect or the spiritual aspect .This paper aims at exploring the aesthetic values and meaning of the images of the rivers by settling the images of rivers in the novels of the new period through analyzing the literary and cultural prototype which the rivers resemble.The first part of this paper summarizes the images of the rivers in the novels of the New Period. And it states the motif significance and literature prototype value of the river image from the development of the natural object to the literature images. And then it sum up characteristics of the river images in the new period.The second part of this paper elaborates the river images in the new period novels from 4 prototype interpretation points. The first one is Father prototype,which reveals ideal personality and national spirit. The second one is reproductive prototype,which represents sexual desire and inoculation meaning. The third one is Yin and Yang prototype,which shows the conflicts of idea and reality. The last one is redeemed prototype,which express evil and baptism.The third part of this paper analyses the spirit connotation of the river images.And it shows involvement of river images in stating the themes of novels. The spirit connotation it contains can be divided into 4 types:The first is the reveal of national spirit and the pursuit of ideal personality. And the second is to show the unyielding life will. The third is the description of the conflicts between idea and reality. The last one is expressions of ecological consciousness and Ecological concept.The last part of this paper summarizes the aesthetic effects of river images in the novels of the new period. It is stated in 3 aspects: 1.Mysterious and polysemous aesthetic effects that river images symbolized. 2.The river images could be used as rodman eye which could dredge a novel.3.The river images can make statement poetic and meaningful.
