Amy Tan is a contemporary Chinese writer who is very influential in American literature world. Throughout Amy Tan's novels, including the 1989 debut The Joy Luck Club, and later The Kitchen God's Wife, The Hundred Secret Senses,The Bonesetter's Daughter and other works are all implied the common topics of Tan's creation: Reflections on the fate of life, exploring the value of life . When Tan pondering the fate of life, based on her dual Chinese-American identity and the dual culture heritage, her understanding of the fate not only contains Western culture but also contains a factor of Chinese culture. Thus, Amy Tan's novels revealing an unique and complex fate of view which was intertwined Chinese and Western cultures.Throughout the academic study of Amy Tan, most of their critical perspective was focus on Tan and her works characters'ethnic identity and the personality characteristics of women, and the works of Amy Tan's philosophy of life contained in the slightly was less concerned. In order to researching Amy Tan and her works more deeply, and doing a new attempt for contemporary academic study of Amy Tan, based on close reading of the works, this thesis combined with the destiny view in the East and the libertinism in the West; from the perspective of cross-cultural to perspective the embodied Chinese and Western culture of destiny view of Amy Tan's works; based on researching how human destiny view formed, this thesis discusses the Chinese and West culture in Tan's novels, and also mining the thinking of destiny view shown by her novels.This paper is divided into three parts: introduction, body and conclusion. The introduction first mainly describes the researches in Chinese and other countries to Amy Tan, and then establishing the basis and research value of this paper. The body part of this paper including three chapters: Chapter I discusses the oppression of patriarchal culture to women and the rejection of the mainstream American culture to minorities, the self lost of individual life in Tan's novels, and then analyzes what the self lost of individual life questioning the fate of life and searching the meaning of life. Chapter II resolves the novel the life of the individual in deep trouble when individuals thinking about the fate of the Oriental sense of fatalism. On the basis of the text to read this chapter, with Amy Tan's life experiences, analysis of their causes, manifestation of fate consciousness in the novels and life guidance, turn out the text of fate-like State in Eastern mystery. Chapter III studies on novel characters on the fate of life , and self rescue in the predicament. This chapter combines with Western liberal thought, specific self-saving paradigm of carding in the text, while analyzing that individuals save the internal driving force in-depth. Three chapters of part of the body elaborate on the concept of fate of Amy Tan's novels in a progressive way: faced with hard times, believe the fatalism in the East, be sure one can't get rid of the fate of constant in one's life, thus frankly face and shoulder troubles, and adhering to the spirit of freedom in the West, fight with dilemmas bravely, select itself to complete self-rescue, and realize the value of life significance. Conclusion section on contemporary significance in view of Amy Tan's fate is prospect; fate of Amy Tan's novel conveys the concept of "face the dilemma", "self-help" mental to modern people to think deeply and be enlightened.
