Hu Shi's Viewpoint On Western And Chinese Cultures And The Marxist Interpretation Of It

Hu Shi, the main person of modern Chinese history of ideology,his viewpoint on western and Chinese cultures became gradually clear with a series of Culture disputations in 1920s.The cause of forming Hu Shi's combining western and Chinese cultures viewpoint were deep love of his native culture and deeply infuenced by modern western culture. He thougnt that Chinese traditional culture rejuvenation must be combining western and Chinese cultures. So he stressed combining western and Chinese cultures together and being fully internationalized, applied the modern scientific ways to sorting out Chinese heritage, reestablished Chinese traditional culture,in order to realise his ideal of rebuilding Chinese civilization.From four aspects this article will attempt to discuss the historical background,ideological basis,characteristics and drawback of Hu Shi's viewpoint on western and Chinese cultures,and interpretation to development of socialism culture with Chinese characteristics under the guidance of Marxism,in order to probe into contemporary value of his viewpoint on western and Chinese cultures,and provide references for our development of socialism culture with Chinese characteristics. All above shows that the big idea of his viewpoint on western and Chinese cultures is learning from western cultures strong points to offset ours weakness,then combine strong points of Chinese culture with western culture. From history practice and vitalizing the nation perspective, Hu Shi's viewpoint on western and Chinese cultures embody culture nationality and times unifications,keep up with the trend of Human being culture.By reviewing and rethinking Hu Shi's viewpoint on western and Chinese cultures, under the globalization age, under the development of socialism new culture with Chinese characteristics, under Marxism universal principles and on the base of socialism principle, in connection with the construction of Chininese socialist modernization needs,with an open mind and with the compatible attitude ,we must constantly explore the modern sense of Chinese culture, seek the integration and development of Chinese and world's cultures,create a distinctive ethnic characteristics, but also fully emboding the spirit of the times and highly developed socialist new culture.
