Lixingzhang Woodblock New Year Painting in Neihuang County enjoys a history of over one hundred years. With strong lines, contrasting colors and simple style, Lixingzhang Woodblock New Year Painting reflects the special features of Central China culture. It is also an indispensable commodity for the Spring Festival. Lixingzhang Woodblock New Year Painting is a kind of traditional crafts with the features of arts and practical usability and plays an important role in the folk life. However, Lixingzhang Woodblock New Year Painting has its popularity mainly in the rural grassroots and there is scarcity of professional research on it. With the changes of the social and cultural environment, Lixingzhang Woodblock New Year Painting is also experiencing changes and its future is not optimistic. So it becomes urgent to have a comprehensive record and research on Lixingzhang Woodblock New Year Painting.Based on the field investigation, this thesis makes a survey of the current status of Lixingzhang Woodblock New Year Painting and analyzes its cultural content from the perspectives of folk beliefs, ceremony and symbol connotations. By comparing its historical and present status, the thesis sums up the changes of its content, positioning and craftsmen and discusses the incentives and causes to promote these changes from the perspectives of the craftsmen, the public and the authorities.The thesis is divided into five parts: part I gives an introduction of the geographic and cultural environment of Lixingzhang Village; Part II gives a description of the present situation of Lixingzhang Woodblock New Year Painting on the basis of field investigation; Part III makes an analysis of its cultural connotation and starts characteristic study of Lixingzhang Woodblock New Year Painting; Part IV draws an outline of the changes of Lixingzhang Woodblock New Year Painting and analyzes the causes of these changes; Part V conducts an investigation on the respective attitudes of officials, academics and craftsmen in applying for protection of as an intangible cultural heritage and the consequent influence on the development of Lixingzhang Woodblock New Year Painting.
