Self-control is an important part of self mental structure, and plays a great role in people's adaptation to society. The level of self-control can directly affect individual's behavior. Many earlier empirical studies have confirmed that low self-control was closely related to crimes and misconducts. However, few studies can be found discussing self-control of patients on methadone maintenance treatment (MMT). Therefore, this study aimed at figuring out the mental mechanism and intervention measures of self-control of patients on MMT, so as to provide some experiences for group counseling and psychological treatment of patients on MMT.In order to achieve the objectives, research program was projected. First, by questionnaire, this paper studied the performance and characteristics of self-control of patients on MMT as well as the relationship between self-control and relapse tendency. Second, by Implicit Association Test (IAT), an implicit effect study was carried out to examine the self-control ability of patients on MMT. At the same time, this paper verified the dual structure of self-control by confirmatory factor analysis. Finally, on the basis of the explicit and implicit characteristics of self-control of patients on MMT, empirical therapy oriented group counseling was adopted to study the psychological intervention of self-control of patients on MMT.On the basis of the study, the following were concluded:(1) It's common to see self-control related problems in the life, work, and entertainment of patients on MMT, which was especially manifested in two aspects, one was "made nothing of what should be done" and the other was "done what should not be done". Their self-control capacity was affected by both internal and external factors. Self- control level of different gender, age, marital status of patients on MMT were remarkably different.(2) Relapse tendency of patients on MMT was closely related to self-control.(3) Self control and relapse tendency of patients on MMT and compulsory drug addicts were significantly different.(4) Self-control had implicit effects, as a result it comprised both implicit and explicit aspects.(5) Empirical therapy group counseling enhanced self-control capacity of patients on MMT both from implicit and explicit aspects.
