A Studay Of Wang-Kaiyun's The Commentary Of Kungyang Chuan

Wang Kaiyun was an expert on Confucian classics in late Qing Dynasty. He almost annotated all the Confucian classics, wrote a lot of books, and was regarded one of the masters of his generation. However, because of his ancient and simple style of writing, and his plain academic orientation, both of which were quite different from most of the other scholars with the great and strange style in late Qing Dynasty, he was not approved. In recent times, Wang's academy was attached much importance to by the scholars. The thesis concerned Wang Kaiyun's book, The commentary of Kungyang chuan, with a means of analyzing the text to mine Wang's new thoughts, and based on that, reappraised the value of Wang's academics on Kungyang chuan on Spring and Autumn.In late Qing Dynasty, the renaissance of the late-Qing New Text school was a special academic phenomenon. Compared with Qian-Jia Han Confucian classics, The late-Qing New Text school evidently had different academic methods and purport. But from another perspective, it was the continuation and deepening of the Han Confucian classics. On the base of re-combing the occurrence and evolution of The late-Qing New Text school, the thesis gave an account of Wang's academic course, especially his three kinds of works on Spring and Autumn Annals which was introduce in a separate section.Wang Kaiyun considered that Kungyang chuan on Spring and Autumn explained the tenet of Spring and Autumn Annals well. The commentary of Kungyang chuan acted as a connecting link between the preceding and the following and played an important role among the books on Spring and Autumn Annals. The thesis analyzed the sentences of the books, compared with Kong Guangseng's Gongyang Tongyi and Chenli's Gongyang Yishu in characteristic of annotation and the choice of righteousness, showed the differences to give prominence to academic characteristic of Wang's viewpoint on Spring and Autumn Annals, and reevaluate position of Wang's viewpoint on Spring and Autumn Annals in history of the late-Qing New Text school.Wang Kaiyun majored in New Confucian classics and what he pursued all his life is emphasizing statecraft. When you read Wang's two books: Xiang Qi Lou Anthology and Xiang Qi Lou Diary, you will find his thought quite agree with the righteousness what he got from Spring and Autumn Annals. The thesis based on The commentary of Kungyang chuan and other associated historical materials, analyzes Wang's behaviors to outline his thought on the highest political science,he named it"course of emperor", and combining the trend of history to form a judgment on his political view and academic trend.
