Research On The "Restoration Theory" Of Wang Kaiyun

Wang Kaiyun was established as one of controversial masters in modern poetry community for his literary doctrine of "Back to the ancients" .However, this simple commentary for his literary works is not a fair and adequate word for his great achievements and influence in the literary field of his times. Besides, it is probably harmful to the insightful studies of the whole modern literature history.The present thesis is not intended to rehabilitate his literary tenet, but rather, to offer a comprehensive evaluation of his life-long literature practice and advocacy for "ancient restoration" on the basis of existing researches available. In this paper , I especially -make a point of his theory of "Appealing to emotions" and reevaluate his contribution to literature in terms of Anti-rationlism orientation and insigt into literature essence. The present author also traces back to the particular historical and social contexts for his literary proposition. Wang's conservative view seems to be "out of date " at the time of that troubled late Qing Dynasty. Superficially, it is his own choice , but the underlying reason is actually the decline of classical Chinese poetry that has influnenced his choice.
