In this thesis, it aims to research the ideological and cultural connotation of the Root-seeking Literature and its value orientation, and places it in the 1980s, which indulged in the pursuit of modernization, specially pays attention to the far-reaching impact of the new ideology in the political, economic, cultural and other aspects. The root-seeking writers return to the traditional Chinese culture, and construct a landmark literary practice project including variety of discourse, for example, traditional / modern, local /western and so on. The Root-seeking Literature contacts with the literature in the New Period, the May Fourth Enlightenment discourse and the success of Latin American magic realism, to solve the potential or visible connection, the thesis writer select the three key words, which contain localization, nationalization and globalization. The author is trying to restore the real historical context of the Root-seeking Literature, and mainly concentrate on the three aspects, including the self-help attitude of the Root-seeking Literature, the practice of cultural enlightenment and the confusion of facing modernity. To clarify the relationship among literature, sociology and knowledge, the author explains of the individual identity in roots writers, the national cultural identity and the value vision of globalization by sociology of knowledge. Meanwhile, the paper also explains that the concept of regional cultural, the traditional values, the choice of civil discourse and the construction of local discourse, and how to determine the contemporary value of the Root-seeking Literature, how to locate the Chinese Literature character in pace with the World Literature. In a word, it has made a depth debate, a possible position and a necessary thinking.
