Weifang Kite Visual Form Factors

As one of the non-material cultural heritages, Weifang kites is an important component of the folk fine art. Its elements possess highly aesthetic research value in both static and dynamic perspective. The research article focuses on five different aspects, based on the field trip and document literature. Firstly, we illuminate the origin and the process of the production with the exemplification of kite of centipede with dragon head which represents the Weifang kites most. Based on a good knowledge of the origin source of Weifang kites, the article exerts the aesthetic principles to compare kites at home and aboard, mainly in the perspectives of shape, color, pattern, theme and other static elements through which we find various formal beauties of Weifang kites. Moreover, we turn to research the dynamic beauty of Weifang kites in which the soul of this folk art lies. Therefore, the core of this article is to study the static and dynamic beauty of Weifang kites. Furthermore, in order to avoid a superficial statement of Weifang kite, we elaborate the deeply connotative meaning of it.At last, the article appreciates the graphic design in the whole region of Weifang in the perspective of design. The article combines the artistic merit, connotative meaning and modern design value and reiterates the superiority of Weifang kite again. We hope that this attitude could let more and more people know the aesthetic value of Weifang kites and help developing the kite industry better to promote local economy.
