In 1937, the Japanese imperialists implemented the brutal massacre plan in Nanjing, the capital of national government at that time. That period of history happened over 70 years ago, but today, the pain retained in the deep memory is still"reproduced"by different directors. From late 1980s, with the liberalization of the voice of Nanjing Massacre, a number of movies about this history have been produced in film-making field. So far, the public screenings is about 9 films. On December 22, 1987, China's first feature film"Massacre in Nanjing", positively presenting atrocities of Japanese invaders in Nanjing Massacre, was shown to the public in Nanjing. In 1995, Wu Ziniu, a famous director of the fifth generation, shot the film"Don't Cry Nanking". In the same year, Tun Fei Mou, a director from Hong Kong, made a film"The Black Sun·Nanjing Massacre". In 2002, Raymond To shot the film"May, August". It is the film that from the perspective of children accused the disaster to the millions of Chinese families caused by Nanjing Massacre. In 2004, Zheng Fangnan made the film"Qixia Temple 1937", which is known as the Chinese version of"Schindler's List". In 2006, Gao Qunshu shot a film"The Tokyo Trial", which was about war review and war responsibilities. In 2008, Roger·Spotty Wood shot"The Chilren of Huang Shi", which is recomposed from a real story about a British war correspondent George·Hogger saved an orphan from thousands of miles away. In 2009,"John Rabe", a Sino-German coproduced film, and"Nanjing! Nanjing!", a domestic produced film, were both brought about.Nanjing Massacre as a historical event has the unique value, but for film production, this historical event becomes rich and colorful. In Jiang Wen's"In the Heat of the Sun", there is a line like this: memory is always changed by emotions. This verified why Nanjing Massacre becomes rich and colorful in film production. The adoption of"massacre movie"concept is not strictly from the perspective of film types, but just takes the theme of"massacre"as a historical event. Taking feature films about the theme of Nanjing Massacre as the research object, this thesis claims that in a certain time span, the films are developing, which means that the development has historic evolution. The introduction of the thesis reviews relevant researches about Nanjing Massacre and introduces main ideas about this research. From the perspective of historical memory, the second section of the thesis clarifies the concept of"massacre"at first, then traces the whole process of"Nanjing Massacre", and finally explores the causes of"Nanjing Massacre".From the perspective of feature films about Nanjing Massacre in movie media, the third part firstly depicts general information about film production; and then talks about concept evolution in film production about Nanjing Massacre, divide the films into three comparatively large perceptions, namely complaint, redemption, and reflection, and specifically analyze the three categories in detail. Finally, from the acceptance psychology, the thesis demonstrates that when the films confront with the public with a special emotional memory, whether the national emotions influence the consumption for films about Nanjing Massacre.
