The Research Of The Films About Nanjing Massacre

Nanjing Massacre is a great tragedy in the human history. It shows the ugly and also the beautiful of humanity. So far, there have been 14 films which takes the Nanjing Massacre as the theme, that this paper makes them as the study object. The first two chapters probed the current situation of the feature films and documentaries about Nanjing Massacre. And the study of feature films started from analyzing and evaluating seven films in the aspects of perspective, plot, characters, theme and structure core, and explored the history development and regional characteristics of the Nanjing Massacre feature film from two dimensions of the time and space trying to get a comprehensive understanding of the Nanjing Massacre feature stories in movies. The probe of documentaries started from analyzing the value of material, the organization of material and the changes of creative concept and then researched what value these documentaries provided, how they organized the material and what different creative concepts these documentaries represent in order to understand how Nanjing Massacre documentaries prove the history and the related reality. In the third chapter, the paper compares the two art forms of movies about Nanjing Massacre, firstly probed the different meanings of "truth" in feature films and documentaries (the former pursuit artistic truth, and the latter pursuit historical truth), and then pointed out the common "history" pursue of both feature films and documentaries about Nanjing Massacre, that is the probe of history truth from cognitive and then value judgments, and finally the reflection of humanity selection. This is what the feature films, documentaries, and even all other art forms should pursue as the highest truth when once again they return to this period of history.
