| Having a history of nearly five hundred years in Ming and Qing Dynasties, the eight-part essays teaching plays as an indispensable part in traditional Chinese education. This paper tentatively defines the concept of eight-part essays teaching, summarizes its framework, and discusses the historical role and deficiencies of eight-part essays teaching with the helpful enlightenment of eight-part essays teaching for current Chinese teaching put forward at last.The eight-part essays teaching, by its nature, is a series of teaching activities that center on the writing style of eight-part essays, the special and most important writing style of the Imperial Examination. The teaching method existed for five hundred years, spreading over Ming and Qing Dynasties, and constitutes the main aspects of traditional Chinese teaching of the two dynasties. Moreover, it forms its unique teaching system, which is mainly embodied in its clear teaching objectives, comprehensive teaching contents, special teaching organizations, rich teaching materials, and distinctive teaching methods, etc.In terms of the historical role, the eight-part essays teaching not only promote the development of neo-Confucianism and Ming-Qing literature, but also train the official personnel needed by the ruling class. However, it is undeniable that the goal of eight-part essays teaching is too utilitarian. Moreover, due to the long-term of plagiarism, imitation, and mechanical application existing in the eight-part essays teaching, cliche and impractical style of study are gradually formed.As an component of traditional Chinese education, the eight-part essays teaching has important implications for current Chinese teaching in classic interpretation, composition teaching, oral communication teaching, etc. Meanwhile, the eight-part essays teaching attaches great importance to thinking training and the combination of moral and intellectual education, which are also worth our further study.
