The Translation Of Foreign Children's Literature In The "May Fourth" Period

Modern Chinese children's literature was horn and attained its great development in the "May Fourth"period. And the translation of foreign, mainly western, children's literature was very prosperous at that time; it played an important role in the development of modern Chinese children's literature. However, when we mention the translation at that time, we ofien ignore the translation for children. The thesis tries to make an objective description of the translation for children in this period. Translation is an essentially complex social activity; many social and historical factors at a time will influence the translation at that time. Having investigated the translation for children in the "May Fourth"period, the author gives her conclusion that the adult's viewpoint on children and children's literature in a period is probably the most important factor influencing the translation for children in the period, for it is related directly to how the translator regards his object of translation.
