Social support was defined as mental and physical support from social relationship. Favourable Social support could promote people's health, while ill relationship could damage health. Recent research found, its different components had various outcomes. Through main effect model, buffering effect model and dynamic model, social support imposed effect on people's mental health. This study aims to develop a chineses'Social Support Questionnaire and use it to make an investigation in china.Based on summarizing the documents,the investigation of open--ended questionnaire,visiting some people and discussing with Psychologieal experts,the theoretical hypothesis is constructed.By the factor analysis of the informal questionnaire,we develop the formal questionnaire and verify its reliability and validity. We use the formal questionnaire to investigate 1000 chinese to find some characters of them and we test the structure of social support by Structural Equation Model.The main results of the sdudy are as follows:l.The Chinese' social support are multi-dimensional model. We research it at three aspects: social support form friends,social support from family and from anything else。2. On the base of the theoretical hypothesis,we form the elementary questionnaire and investigate 320 people. We develop the formal questionnaire by item analysis and factor analysis. The index of reliability and validity is good. All of above shows the Social Support Questionnaire is a scale suitable to measure Chinese people'social support.3.We use the formal questionnaire to survey 1000 Chinese people. Demological varables,such as gender,origin ete.The effete is statically significant in some dimensions. In the Whole,Chinese people'social support shows the characteristies as follows:firstly,multiplicity of the social support goals;seeondly,imbalance of the social support;finally, optimism of the values of social support.
