The method the author used is self-report measure with questionnaires. The thesis includes three parts: first, the investigation of the emotional intelligence, social support, perceived social support and mental health of the middle school students; the analysis of the differences of emotional intelligence within different cities, grades and gender. Second, the discussion of the relationships between emotional intelligence and social support, perceived social support, mental health. Finally, the analysis of the differences of the relationships between emotional intelligence and social support within different cities, grades, gender. The study results of the first part in this thesis show:â‘ Although there wasn't significant difference in overall emotional intelligence between the two cities, the abilities of Shanghai students were significant higher than those of Datong ones in the perception emotion and the managing self-relevant emotions. â‘¡The abilities of junior school students were higher significantly than those of senior school ones in overall emotional intelligence, the managing self-relevant emotions and the managing other's emotions. â‘¢There wasn't obvious sex difference in overall emotional intelligence, but the abilities of girls were higher significantly than those of boys in the perception emotion and the managing other's emotions factor. â‘£The serious accidents of families would influence the emotional intelligence of the middle school students.
