Due to historical and geographic estrangement , Chinese language and cultural exchange has once correspondingly been held up among Hongkong ,Taiwan and the mainland for a long period of time and yet is the case Within the same circle of Chinese culture, though, people in Hongkong, Taiwan and the mainland have taken quite different views towards even the same thing as a result of different community background, which have found expressions in foreign concepts, stuff, and loan words in particular Previous studies on loan words haven抰 brought much to our attention, or rather , to some extent, have ignored the considerable confusion and barrier in communicating derived from choice of translation and normalization failure, which adds to the difficulty of academic and cultural exchange and sound development of modern Chinese language The author focusing on the descriptive lexicology, gives a synchronic account and study on a general linguistics ground of the translation discrepancy in these three areas, by employing the relevant theories of sociolingutstics and absorbing the research findings in semantics, pragmatics, phonetics, psychology and sociology, and then, the difference is analyzed from the point of view both synchronically and diachronically After showing the translation characteristics of these three areas, the emergence and development of loan words in Chinese language is brought out, followed by relevant topics like the definition of loan words and the true nature of free translation words The way of taking in loan words and adapting them to Chinese language and culture is compated with those in English and Japanese languages, which tends to argue the decisive role the ideographic natuie of Chinese characters has played in how to take in loan words and how many The standard norm of using Chinese words, the aim of which is to help the linguistic workers of Hongkong , Taiwan and the mainland to work out the scheme for language and provide some theoretical evidence for the final merge in unity, may well be suggested due to the fact that community or regional language variants of the same foreign notions or material matters have come into existence as far as people in Hongkong ,Taiwan and mainland are concerned...
