This is a translation report Authorized from a university professor, the author took the task of translating an academic paper entitled "The Multiple Images of Logic in the Perspective of Linguistic Contact".The academic paper mainly emphasized that during the broad spreading of new terms in China, many terms such as "logic" are well accepted by Chinese people which can show the change of Chinese peoples' thinking modes and basic values. During this process, the meanings of some terms have already been narrowed, expanded or even changed and some Chinese originated terms returned; therefore the translation of these terms has become very complicated. The paper to be translated is about the returning of terms, and the translation, spreading and acceptance of these terms in China, and many examples are provided in the paper. The author would divide these terms mainly into three types which are concrete and abstract words, loan words and quoted classical Chinese. The author needs to pay attention to the meaning and expression of the terms during translation due to the different cultural background and context. The basic requirements of the professor are to be clear, accurate and understandable. This thesis is composed of five chapters. Chapter one is a brief introduction to the task. Chapter two is the pre-translation preparations including the necessary task analysis, helpful translation tools and related studies. Chapter three is the specific case study, which analyzes the examples of concrete and abstract words, loan words and quoted classical Chinese, and then offers the feasible translation strategies accordingly. Chapter four is about the post translation and the last chapter is the conclusion of the whole process and the findings.About the translation strategy for concrete and abstract Chinese words are transliteration, direct translation and free translation; the translation methods for loan words are transliteration, direct translation, explanatory translation and transliteration plus direct translation; as an important area in translation, the translation of quoted classical Chinese has drawn more and more attention due to the broad spreading of Chinese internationalization and the translation strategies author discussed are direct translation, elimination and explanatory translation. In the paper, the author emphasized that, during the translation process, careful reading and understanding of the original text and the use of parallel texts are very important. The only way for translators to have a concise translation is to analyze source texts carefully and adopt relative translation strategies.
