This problem is on the basis of the 628 characters included in the Word List for Chinese Dialect Investigation,not including 23 characters out commen use.we have investigated 43 dialect places of Hengshui in the Hebei southeast on the spot and sumed up four pronunciation types:?~ tst~type iii-. tst~type2zz. tptype EL~I~ readcompletelyt~type0The viewsof academic circles are divergent on the question of division or combination of ~[1E1E~ three groups initial consonants in the Central Plains Phonology since long termi~ULEi~ three groups initial consonants show diversities in the dialect of modem times.This paper starts with the dialect in which thethree groups initial consonants are divided two groups And we not only make ~ three groups initial consonants be the starting point of the diachronic variations of the China northern dialect since modem times,but also consult GanYu(~i~u),JuXian(~~) dialect,compare with the four pronunciation type of Hengshui,and further outline the diachronic variation tract of ~I Eii~ ~ three groups initial consonants from the Central Plains Phonology to Putonghua.This paper not only proves the standpoint that the distictions of ~UJI~i~ three groups initial consonants in China northern dialect of modem times are the unbalanced expression with growth,but also proves ~III/~I~7 three groups initial consonants are two groups in the Central Plains Phonology.From medieval times to modem times the three groups initial consonants have being developed continuously. Though ~5~[1 L~ ~7 three groups initial consonants partly combined into one group,seperated-twogroup was the basic trend at the time of Central Plains Phonology.Afterthis,theYin( 1~ )phonology,Yang(IL~I1 )phonology,Ru(A)Ph onologyof ~II1~i~ group initial consonants combined into ~HZ4IE group by stages and in groups in the light of differrent law and speed. This paper reveals and describes the above for the first time.
