As an adverb of time, "f" can mean "all the way" or "again andagain" according to the semantic types of the verbs it modifies. The verbs canbe classified to three types: verbs of action-. verbs of change and stativeverbs. These three types of verbs are the decisive factors for defining thedifferent meanings of "~"When "f" modifies a verb of action or a verb of change, "f" means"again and again". When it modifies a stative verb or a negative form ofa verb, "f" means "all the way" . No matter "f" means "Again andagain" or "all the way " ,it indicates the time volume of a given actiornchange or state, with the meaning of "magnitude" in time. So "again andagain" and "all the way can be generalized into one sememe, indicating the meaning of "magnitude" in time. The adverb of time "~j~" also means "Again and again" and "allthe way " according to the same decisive factors that define the differentmeanings of "f". Although "f" and "~~" are the same in meanings, the verbal components modified by "~" are not quite the same as thosemodified by "~~" . "~" tends to modify the verbal components thatexpress generally and sketchily certain kind of action or state. "~~"tends to modify the verbal components that can detail particulars of anaction. an event or a state. For example, the mode ~the posture of a givenaction or the existing state of a given thing."f" and "~ ~" also have differences in the syntactical andpragmatical aspects. The pragmatical difference between "f" and "~2~" is that "~~" has a sense of emphasis which "k" does nothave. "~" is used on ordinary occasions to indicate that certain kindof action often occurs or certain state lasts for a long time. While"~ ~" can stress strongly the frequency of an action or an event, and the continuity of certain state. In a word, "~~" has a more explicitmeaning and a more forceful tone. The syntactical differences between "f" and "~~" exist as follows:First of all, there could not be too many adverbial modifiers , especiallycomplicated adverbial modifiers that detail the mode or the posture ofan action, between "~" and the head verb of the sentence. While between"~ ~" and the head verb of the sentence there can be manycomplicated adverbial modifiers. All these prove that "f" has acloser relation with the head verb than "~~" does.Secondly, "f" is closely linked to the verb it modifies, and itsposition in the sentence soldem changes. While "~~" can exchange itsposition with other syntactical components. So we can say that the positionof "~~" in the sentence is not as fixed as that of "f"Thirdly, "~~" can go together with a lot of other adverbs. So itscollocation ability is higher than that of "f...
