The development of Chinese theoretical study of translation is inseparablefrom the introduction and borrowing translation theories from Western countries, the purpose of which is to give enlightenment and to bring forth new ideas.Taking tbe dialectic attitude of Na Lai Zhu Yi (拿来主义), the author makes astudy and exploration of the main ideas and principIes of Nida's theory. By meansof the academic results of tourism culture, informatics and aesthetics etc, thisthesis proves theoretically and practically the uscful elements and guiding role ofNida's theory. Moreover, it introduces its primary concepts and research methodinto the discussion of tourist materials English translation. Based on this, thethesis analyses both the cultural elements in tourist materials and the differencesbetween Chinese and Western cultures as reflected in such materials, thus puttingforward some rules and methods in translating such materials into English. The thesis is divided into four parts. The first part underlines the relationshipbetween theory and practice, and points out the importance of translation theory. The second part makes an analysis and assessment of Nida's theory with highlightof his "dynamic equivalence" and "receptors" concept. Furthermore, salutaryenlightenment is drawn from the study of his theory. The third part, with focus onthe source, message, and receptors in communication, discusses the channelcapacity of message translating, namely, approaches to tourist materials Englishtranslation (TMET), and demonstrates the theoretical value and practicalsignificance of the application of Nida's theory to such materials. The last part isthe reiteration of the main standpoints of the thesis.
