The Investingation And Analysis To The Materials Of GaoYou's Phonetic Notations

Through the investigation and analysis to the materials for GaoYou抯 phonetic notations that had been retained in Spring and Autumn Annals of LvBuwei and Huainanzi, this thesis strives to find more terms of GaoYou phonetic notations, and set a correct value on his materials in the critical interpretation of ancients texts. This thesis is mainly divided into four parts. First, to be the introduction. Second, to be the investigation of the materials for his phonetic notations and the analysis to its forms. Third , to be the analysis to its terms. Fourth, to be the exposition to its values in the critical interpretation of ancient texts. In the introduction I speak the motive and significance of this thesis, show the research methods and the operation procedure. In the second part I give it wide coverage that classified his materials according to the terms and the forms of phonetic notations, about 83 examples in Spring and Autumn Annals of LvRuwei. If there is no explanation to its forms in it, I use the materials as supplement in HuainanzL Il do my best to reflect the complete picture of the forms of GaoYou phonetic notations .So far as its materials had been sorted out, there are some kinds at his forms. One , is reed like B Two, is read as B Three, is B Four, A pronunciation is B pronunciation. Five, another kinds and so on . In the third pail; I analyse the function, difference and similarity of the main terms used by (IaoYou, such as ead ead like ead as and ronounce etc. The early finds show that all the frst three terms have three flinctions: to mark ,with phonetic symbols , to be interchangeability of Chinese characters , and to change pronunciations. But ronounce only has the first two fimctions, because it has been seldom used. In the fourth part I show the value of his materials. By analysing the frequency and function of Gao ead like ead as appearing in Spring and Autumn Annals of LvBuwei and Huainanzi , we can correct Duan Yucai mistakes ,that he thought ead like nd ead as ere just likely pronunciations, Second ,the terms that Gao used all had the functions to change wordspronunciations. Fox example ,in Spring andAutumn Annals of Lvbuwei. Zhi Zhong, Gao marked thepronunciation of the word ngry?with the word rossbow in Shen Wet Gao marked eavy with epeat;in Yuan Dao marked tay with esidence From these materials on phonetic notations, we can know the words that Gao changed its pronunciations usually are normal words. Some of them were marked with special pronunciations and explanations. Some only had special pronunciations or only had explanations. All of these can prove it had ever existed that a word might have two or even more kinds of pronunciations in East Han Dynasty. So we can correct the mistakes of Yv Yue who thought one word had only one kind of pronunciation, and the mistakes of Hong Cheng who thought the changed pronunciations only had explaining function, not showing that words might have more pronunciations . Third, Gao used lots of the two terms as ead and ronounce in Spring and Autumn Annals of Lv Buwez and Huainanzz. Both of these two tcnns have the function to mark words with phonetic symbols.
