Jia Pingwa is one of those outstanding writers who pay much attention to the current realities and society as well as to the literry tendercy of the present. In terms of his creative gist and esthetic trend, Jia's writing can be grouped into the following two kinds: " the Shangzhou Series" characterized by revealing the spiritual orbit of Shangzhou people and "the Cultural Worries and Anxiety Series" featured by highlighting on the fate of culture during the transformation of society and culture. The First Record of Shangzhou, which lays the groundwork for "the Shangzhou Series" and exerts an important influence on the literal circle, and Impetuosity are the reprehensive works of this series.There are three features during the three stages in the creative gist andaesthetic trend in "the Shangzhou series", the first stage reveals the psychological distortion and its rebuilding of the Shangzhou people in the reforming age, with The First Record of Shangzhou, Xiao Yue, the first Series, The household in Ji Wowa, December and January as its representative works; the second stage seeks for the beauty of the human nature, pursuing human beings dignity and value, with The Wild Emotions of Remote Mountains, Mrs hei, Ice and Coal as its representative works; the third stage gives a penetrating analysis of the Shangzhou people's state of mind, exposing the sadness and belief of painful history, with Impetuosity as its representative work. There is a spiral progress in the creative gist and aesthetic trend of these three stages.Such novel as Ruined City is the turning point of Jia's creative gist and aesthetic trend. The following five novels such as Ruined City, Daytime, The Doorof Earth, Gao laozhuang, In memory of Wolf compose " the Cultural worries and Anxiety Series". These five books, on the one hand, share a lot in their creative gist and aesthetic trend; on the other hand, they differ from each other with respective highlights. Ruined City reveals the decadent mood of the age, illustrating the history of spiritual struggle of the traditional men of letters of the time. Daytime depicts a kind of tragedy in which a bunch of city people who struggled and pursued their life ideals, displaying the pervasive seeking and pursuing atmosphere. The Door of Earth describes the last elegy of traditional countryside culture, exposing the worldwide problem of city development. Gao Laozhuang reveals the diversified states of Chinese culture and its difficult position. In Memory of Wolf is a kind of fable about human beings' development, illustrating the hard situation the human beings are facing.The development of creative gist and aesthetic trend in Jia's novels reflects the progress of his aestheticism and his value location as well as his progress of artistic pursuit.
