The Qin - Han period was one when feoff system was replaced by fedual ownership of land and ideology changed. There appeared a kind of relatively open and farily free atomosphere of life. In this circumstance, there was fewer spiritual depression and behavior restraint for women. The thesis is meant to give a particular account of the independence and relative equality enjoyed by the female of the Qin - Han dynasties in social and family life aganist the special background.The thesis consists of four parts:The first part anaylyses women of the Qin - Han dynasties living in social background and situation. The Qin - Han dynasties was at the beginning of chi-nese fedual society. Most of systems were at inital stage. The fedual ethical code just came into being. There appeared a kind of relatively open social climate. The female was less fettered by tradition than later generations.The second part analyses the social status of women of the Qin - Han dynasties . Taking the specific situation of women' s life into consideration, The author finds that women of that time enjoyed more rights than those of later dynasties through a comprehensive investigation in politics, owing personal property , accepting cluture and educational, possessing right of civil action, engaging themselves in various social profession, serving in the army and taking part in battles, participating in social interaction etc. Thereby it is proved that the female of the Qin - Han dynasties possessed higher social status.The Third part analyses Qin - Han women' s status in marriage and family life. For men and women of that time, there was possibility of getting united with freedom to a certain degree. In the course of getting engaged, women werenot entirely excluded but had a say in this matter. On a divorce, they also enjoyed more freedom, to leave freely or remarry. Freedom in marriage made women able to obtain a greater freedom and higher status.The four part analyses in detail the reasons of Qin - Han women' s higher status. Because that time was not far away from the Pre - Qin period and remained ancient customs, the feudal ethical code just came into being. Woman' s daily behavior patterns had not been completely put into chains of the Confucian . This made women able to realize the values of human life and raise their status by taking part in production and life of that time in many ways.
