On Sense Of Homestead In Jia Pingwa's Novels In The 1990's

Jia Pingwa's particular style of writing has become a focus of attention in contemporary Chinese literary circles. This paper centers around the following four novels: Desolate Capital, Burred Skyline, lumen-Street of Memories and Gaolao village, to probe the inner spiritual world in order to analyse the sense of homestead of Jia Pingwa's novel in '90s .The main focus of Jia Pingwa's '90s novels is to explore the confusion over values and family條oss sense which people encountered during a period in which the irrational eruption of desire and the loss of traditional civilizations were prevailing in both modern metropolises and remote countryside. Through the author's great concern for the current people 's state of mind , the process of exploration is displayed from various angles which may fall into two categories: the fate and state of mind of common ,urban people ; and the lives and pursuers of intellectuals, but in both categories the result of seeking for homestead is seen to be in vain .According to the publishing order of the four novels , the paper may mainly divide into four stages during which the huge depressed feelings of homestead were betrayed from Desolate Capital first, then suggested by the author's heightening the deterioration of social mood of Xijing. Meanwhile ,the fate of protagonist , Zhuang Zhidie , is the mirror of Chinese intellectuals' frame of mind in a time of social transformation.Compared with the point of view of Desolate Capital ,Bhirred Skyline lays more stress on the present existing states of common citizens ,the earthy life and ideological spirit of whom respectively stand for the two kinds of value dimensions.In the novel Tumen-Street of Memory, the author's vision is drawn on the dividing line between city and countryside , Renhou village, The doomed oblivion of Renhou village ,on the one side ,is a symbol of the lost civilization ;on the other side ,the cruelness and turbulence under the control of desires for money lead to thefinal refusal of the villagers for the civilization of the city. Back to Gaolao Village is seemingly the only resort after people finished seeking for their spiritual homes. However ,with the tide of modern civilizations, the shortcoming of traditional culture mainly reflects on the legitimate content lost and individual power destroyed.In the end ,the paper pointed out that the sense of homestead made by the four novels expressed the author's concern for humanistic spirit which is a two-way thoughts about the current states of people 's existence ,the traditional and modern culture.Though the attempt to pursuit spiritual home is likely to amount to nothing ,the staunch exploration from the passion of life cast light on the social mood and the end -century complex among which with various schools and trends emerging continuously, the strong sense of anxiety is still a part of heritage of Chinese intellectuals along with Wusi Spirit.
