On Sense Of Homestead In Jia Pingwa's Novels

Jia Pingwa, the famous writer of country, is not only the son of nature and peasant, but also the son of Chinese cultural and aesthetic spirit. He was born and brought up in ShangZhou till nineteen years old, and then he went into the city for study, work and live. Although he has lived in city for over thirty years, he falls in love with his home, demostrating countryside customs, country fellow's life and social changes, and expressing the relatively positive thought on the future of country society with a cultural man's view in his novels. By collecting and studying his novels, in this thesis, I manage to make a research on how to demonstrate his hometown's landscapes, customs and social changes, how to manifest its sense of homestead, and how to appreciate his deep love for hometown into his novels and explore his thoughts upon and critical attitude towards his hometown, then ponder him how to depict Chinese feeling and life and describe the sorrow, change thought of Chinese national soul from tradition to modern, which is the base of how this thesis can go on. The thesis is composed the following three parts.Introduction: briefly introduces the definition of sense of homestead in Jia Pingwa's novels.Part One: discusses the three types of sense of homestead in Jia Ping wa's novels. They are the recurrence of sense of homestead and building of home Utopia; the anxiety of sense of homestead and perdition of home Utopia; the family-loss sense and the pursue of home Utopia. When discussing three types, the thesis analyzes the homestead combining his novels.Part Two: lays the emphasis on the reason of indivisible homestead in Jia Pingwa's novels. There are three reasons. Firstly,it originated from his deep love to his home and Chinese traditional culture. Secondly, it originated from his own complicated emotion and social development. Thirdly, it originated from the search for the spiritual home and inspiration for art.Part Three: it mainly researches the value and significance of homestead.Finally the thesis considers that Jia Pingwa explores and pursues the home in his novels, which stands for the trend of contemporary social thought, and indicates the standpoint of cultural structure and aesthetic criticism, how to reflect author's emotional course and find a place in the future novels with the theme of "home" and the concern to the home showed by the fictionists.
