Study On The Utterance Functions Of The Modifiers

The utterance functions of the modifiers include referent and assertion. For the modifiers themselves and the study of Chinese grammar, there are important theoretical significance and practical value by studying the utterance functions of the modifiers.Guided by the modern linguistic theories and descriptive grammar, starting with meaning, this article studies systematically the referent funtions and the assertion functions of the attributes as well as the adverbials, then states the causes which result in the difference of utterance functions. All of the studies should enrich the contents of the utterance functions. At the same time, this paper combines the study of historical grammar. In this way, it has theoretical significance.Combining the semantic orientation, this article generalizes the same point of utterance functions which exist in the attributes and the adverbials. Consequently, it has practical value.
