It compares NEC (Nautical English Corpus) with MTB (Maritime Treaty English), MEE (Marine Engineering English) and LOBA (Lancaster-Oslo/Bergen of Written British English Concerning Newspaper Reportage) The focus of this thesis is the syntactic and semantic analysis of bare infinitive in nautical English. The analysis shows that the word to in the full infinitive is a meaningless unit indicating indirectness and a before/after relation. Therefore the bare infinitive has a direct and simutaneous relationship with the perception verb or causative verb preceding it.
