The study object of this article is the causative verb.It’s a kind of verb which has causative meaning by itself, and can make the object after it present the action or state which the causative verb has. As a special kind of verb, its itself has great research value, and also has a positive influence on modern Chinese verbs’ in-depth research. Based on the verbs in "Modern Chinese Dictionary"(The6th Edition),170causative verbs are filtered out as the study object. Then we utilize the "Three Levels Grammar Theories" to carry on a comprehensive analysis of the modern Chinese causative verb in three aspects of syntax, semantic and pragmatic. And also has a contrastive analysis between the modern Chinese causative verb and some extremely confused words or usage.This article totally consists of six chapters. Chapter one is the introduction, it mainly introduces the limites to the causative verb, the modern research sistuation of the causative verb, the purpose and significance of this essay. It also introduces the linguistic material sources and research means of this essay. Chapter six is the conclusion, we sum up the deficiencies of the article and the idea to continue the study. The main body of this article is from chapter two to five.Chapter two is the syntactic analysis of the causative verb. Firstly, it introduces the classification of the causative verb, it mainly has two parts:verbal causative verb and adjectival causative verb. The biggest syntactic feature of the causative verb is that all of it can take object. Most of the causative verbs can directly take object, but there are also a few of them need some auxiliary components or take some auxiliary means when they take objects. The objects which the causative verbs take not only express person, but also object, behavior or event. It also introduces the nature of causal semantic meaning in the causative sentence.Chapter three is the semantic analysis of the causative verb. It mainly analyze the semantic feature of the causative verb. According to the difference of the semantic feature, we divide the causative verb into four categories. They are Change class, Psychological emotional class, Action behavior class, Nature state class. We also analyze the semantic role of the subject and object in the causative sentence. The subject act as "causer", and the object act as "causee". Lastly the essay also introduces the "valence" and semantic orientation of the causative verb. Most of the modern Chinese causative verbs are two-valence verbs. The semantic orientation of the causative verb is object.Chapter four is the pragmatic analysis of the causative verb. It mainly introduce the pragmatic value of the causative verb. Taken together, mainly in five aspects:Brief and to the point, reflect the economic principle of language; Have hidden a show, increase the language contains; Adjust syllable, enhance the rhythmic beauty of sentences; conform to the times, rice the expression of language; Inherit the traditional, reflect the culture reproductivity. We also analyze the pragmatic structure, the default and add of ingredients in the causative sentence.Chapter five has a contrastive analysis between the modern Chinese causative verb and some extremely confused words,usage or sentence pattern, in order to carry on a comprehensive analysis of the modern Chinese causative verb. It mainly concentrate on four aspects:the contrastive analysis between the causative verb and the pure causative verb, the contrastive analysis between the causative verb and the temporary causative usage of some words, the contrastive analysis between the causative verb and the causative usage of words in ancient Chinese, the contrastive analysis between the causative verb and some other similar sentence pattern.
