Tremendous revolutions took place in the 20th century of human history. The basic course of social development and change hi china was represented by the full formation and the ceasing of semicolonial and semifeudal society, the generation of new democratic society and the establishment of socialist society. The New Democratic Society, established by the Chinese Communist Party and its outstanding representative Mao Zedong, played a significantly historic role in bringing to a close the old social systems and bringing forth the new ones. The re-understanding and re-analysis of some laws underlying the new democratic society can edify people to know well and objectively the national situation of china and the laws underlying the progress of social history, to deepen people's understanding of the theory of the primary stage of socialism and to advance this theory in practice. This paper makes a preliminary investigation into the birth, nature, characteristics and transformation of new democratic society, and meanwhile discusses the implications of its practical experiences. The establishment of new democratic society brought about solutions to such problems as how to bring forward the underdeveloped economy, how to build the nation after the triumph of democratic revolution and how to prepare conditions for transition to socialist society. Its generation was due to the objective necessities. First, Marxist theory of revolutionary transition and Maoist theory of new democracy had laid a theoretical basis for its generation. Second, its generation was practically necessitated by the international situation, china's basic national situation and the Party's practical experiences of building revolutionary bases.New democratic society is a unique social mode, which differs from others in nature and characteristics. From the perspectives of political, economic and cultural compositions, it is in nature the early-phase mode of the primary stage of socialist society, but meanwhile not completely equivalent to it. It is characterized by temporality, stability, complexity and uniqueness. In the next half-year of 1952, the Party and Mao gradually abandoned the original strategic conception of developing democratic society in a unique model and proposed the general guideline of accelerating the transitional stage in practice and choosing a transitional way leading directly to the socialist transformation. Therefore, there came a significant turning point in the course of developing new democratic society. The proposal of the transition of the new democratic society is due to the following reasons: lack of profound understanding of the national situation, not well prepared theoretically, and the influence of social psychology.Under the guidance of Jiang Zeming's theory of "three represents", a summing-up should made of the practical social experience of the new democratic society, which can have an edifying function for the construction of the socialism at its primary stage. (1) We should follow the guide principles of adherence to the ideological guideline of being practical and realistic, and banding together in the real sense Marxism and China's practical situation. (2) With regard to development phases of history, we should insist on historic dialectics and a clear understanding of the relationship between socialism with Chinese characteristics and new democratic society. First, concerning the development orientation of social history, the socialism transited from new democracy has not gone beyond the primary stage of socialism. Second, considering social development stage, we should be fully aware of the temporality of the social practice of new democracy and the eternality of the primary stage of socialism, and the continuity between them. (3) We should persevere in the productivity scale of social development and carry out the economic construction to the full. First, as far as the economic structure is concerned, we should stick to the precondition of public ownership as the principal part and continu...
