The response to the target at the cued location is lower than at the uncued location when cue-target SOA(Stimulus Onset Asynchrony) is longer than 300ms . The phenomenon is called "inhibition of return" (IOR). After IOR is found, the researchers study IOR gradually. They achieve a lot of the fruits of IOR continuously. There are three hypotheses about IOR: attention, response and translation. Every hypothesis is supported by some experiments. Translation-inhibited hypothesis is one latest hypothesis that claims that target processing may affect IOR directly. The few experiments support this hypothesis. In this paper some experiments are designed in order to provide some supports for the translation-inhibited hypothesis. This paper consists of three experiments. In experiment I the effect of cue's shape and target's shape on IOR is examined, in experiment II and III cue's community and target's shape on IOR is studied. The results of three experiments show that cue's shape or community and target's shape are not independent in the formation of IOR. Cue's shape and community affect attention during cuing phase and target's shape affects target perception. Thus, attention during cuing phase and target perception are not independent in the formation of IOR. These results agree with translation-inhibited hypothesis.
