IOR (inhibition of return, IOR) is the lag of reaction when subjects reflect on the locations or objects which has been paid attention to previously. After analysis of previous studies, we found that we should pay attention to the effects from the nature of cues to the inhibitions of return. Therefore, to investigate the effect from the nature of cues to the inhibition of return, "cue-target" paradigms and the identify task were measured as the experimental task, selecting simple geometry (☆, o), general character(文,水)and azimuth characters(左,右;上,下)for cues in three experiments in present. In study 1,we verified the previous studies, and found that the amounts of the inhibition of return under the condition of semantic orientation are much more than the amounts under the condition in simple geometry and general character. In study 2, we further refined the semantic cues, considering the semantic information and dimensions (horizontal, vertical). We concluded that there is a significantly amounts of inhibition of return from the semantic orientation under the condition of match of the dimensions only, In study 3, the results of study 2 are supported. The conclusions of this study are as follows:1 The amounts of inhibition of return were effected by the nature of cue. The deeper processing of the cue,the greater amounts of the inhibition of return. 2 There was an overlap effect on the inhibitions of return. The amounts of the inhibitions increased when various dimensions of the inhibitions of return coexistence.3 The correlations among the stimulations and the overlap on various dimensions of the inhibition of return were contributed to the increases of the values of the inhibitions of return, which might be the reason of the deeper processing of the cue.
