As one of the important popular arts of the 20th century, Musical has become a world cultural Property. Though it's a popular culture, it is not only complicated, but quite changeable. This article will give you a definition of musical and a detailed analysis of its aesthetic characteristics.The article includes two chapters. In Chapter l,the development of the musical in the 20th century was divided into four periods: sprouting, growing, ripeness and flourishing. From the relating, you may know clearly about the different feature of each period. Consulting some musical dictionaries, the article will show you the explanation of the musical. The comparison between it and other musical drama will also be talked about in this chapter.In Chapter 2,the article analyzed socially and historically the characteristics of the aesthetic subjects in appreciating the musical. Then it analyzed the subject's comprehensive and popular characteristics. Finally, the article roughly discussed the commercial operation, the important element that influences the relation between aesthetic subjects and objects.
