The literary language always constructs its contemporary attributes on the basis of inheritance. The contemporary Chinese literature gradually comes into form during the process of inheriting classical Chinese, vernacular, learning western language and practicing itself. This dissertation tries to analyze the development of the contemporary Chinese as well as its complicated relationship to the aesthetic form of the novels and the contemporary ideology with the texts of WangXiaoBo's series of novels which are based on picaresque novels of Tang dynasty. It focuses on the writers' contribution to the contemporary Chinese literature; the ideological phenomenon of Chinese/Western antithesis reflected in the modernization process of the contemporary Chinese, which is one of the popular but sensitive topics in the "postcolonial" context.
