Modern Soviet Union In The City Municipal Modernization Research (1895-1937)

The city has distinctive function and position, so the modernization of it takes great effect in pushing the whole social modernization forward. The public and basic establishments of a city are closely related with all kinds of businesses and the residents' daily life. As the base of a city's modernization, a city's public and basic establishments are important standards of judging the level of this city's modernization. This thesis is a study of the modernization of Central Jiangsu cities on the aspect of the constructions of their public and basic establishments from 1895 to 1937.In my article, Central Jiangsu cities include three major cities Nantong, Yangzhou and Taizhou. Three cities' public and basic establishments had gradually developed from lower level to high level and the processes were affected by their own natural, political and economic conditions and cultural level. Different conditions formed different resultant of forces, which made three cities' public and basic establishments develop in different ways. The development of three cities' public and basic establishments had the characteristic of phase. Before the foundation of Republic of China, the modernization of three cities' public and basic establishments was just in their initial stage. But after the foundation of Republic of China, they developed in an all-round way.At the present time, with a large number of populations pouring into the city and too many activities focusing on limited spaces, lots of problems had appeared in the city. The research on the history of public and basic establishments can help us to realize and then to solve these problems. The modernizations of three cities' public and basic establishments had general characters and most importantly, haddifferences. To study how the differences had formed can provide historical basis for today's construction of public and basic establishments of three cities and get some enlightenment for Central Jiangsu' emerging on the horizon.Zhangjian had given great impetus to the construction of modern Nantong' s public and basic establishments. With Zhangjian' s support and Dasheng Group' s powerful backing, Nantong' s public and basic establishments were the most advanced of three cities. Nantong fully deserved the honor of Model district at that time. Of cause there were some other elements such as favorable transport facilities that leaded to this honor. So the constructions of public and basic establishments of Yangzhou and Taizhou had been so slowly without these in modern history. My studies show that the industrial base, great person' s support and the excellent transport conditions are the most important elements for a city' s public and basic establishments to develop rapidly. Only when a city' s public and basic establishments were developed together with its economy and push each other forward, the city could be thriving and prosperous in the future.The whole thesis is composed of four chapters with about 36 thousand words.
